How Long Does SEO Take?

This is the question we are asked the most at Custom Digital Solutions.

Want to know the answer?

There really isn’t a set amount of time that SEO takes. How frustrating is that?! It truly depends on a lot of factors. And when we say a lot, we mean over 2,000 rules that Google and other search engines have in place. You have to consistently match these rules in order to rank for specific search queries.

For the basics of SEO, there are a few things you need to do:

  1. You need to make sure your website is SEO friendly. If you aren’t sure if your site is optimized, reference our blog on SEO here to double check!

  2. You need to be updating your website with quality content regularly. How regularly, you ask? Well it really depends on how quickly you want to start ranking. If you are publishing one piece of new content a year, it could take you quite some time to start seeing results. That said, you don’t necessarily need to pump out a daily blog. There’s a healthy range of two to four blogs per month that will help Google register that your website is active.

  3. How is your backlink game? Websites that point to your site give you brownie points. Think of it as if you are in second grade. Seriously. Imagine you are in the lunch line and knock a whole carton of milk off of your tray. All your friends are pointing at you, and the teacher knows it was your milk that is all over the floor. Google works the same way. You are pushing out “topics” and websites start pointing back to your content through links. This helps Google know that your website is legit and you'll start to rank higher in searches.

  4. Make sure your content doesn’t stop at your website. You should be proud of your hard work! Post links to social media pages and send them out in email blasts. The more your content spreads out, the better.

If your website is SEO friendly, you are updating your site regularly (with quality content), you have a healthy amount of backlinks, and you are sharing your content, you should start seeing your SEO increase almost immediately. If you keep up this behavior for six to eight months, you'll probably start seeing your business populate on the first page of Google searches.

Once I hit the first page of search results, my job is done - right?

NOPE. In fact, once your business hits the first page of Google other businesses will try to knock you out of your spot. The consistency needs to be continuous, no matter how old or young your brand may be.Ready to start crushing the competition online? Contact our team today!
