How Many Email Blasts to Send | Marketing Stats Leading into 2020

You are pouring over your morning coffee. You sit down to re-strategize your marketing plan for the upcoming year. Something just hasn’t clicked in 2019. Your target audience is kind of engaging with your content, but you haven’t started seeing the fruits of your labor. What could you possibly be doing wrong? You have a beautiful website, you are consistently blogging and creating content...you aren’t sending out email blasts, but could that possibly be the answer?

We have a reality check for you if you are a business owner that doesn’t have email marketing as a part of your current strategy. Email still remains the king of marketing, even moving into 2020. As we approach the new year, there are an estimated 4 billion active email accounts worldwide. This comes at a growth rate of 3% from 2019 (or 100 million new accounts each year if you hate math).

That’s a lot of accounts, but do people check their email anymore?

In the United States alone, email users on average check their accounts ten times per day. This means that you have a ton of room to increase your brand exposure. There are 105 billion emails sent daily, which sounds like an oversaturated marketing, but on average each user receives 27 emails per day.

Sounds more reasonable, right?

Surely millennials can only be reached on social media…

Contrary to popular belief, 73% of millennials prefer contact from businesses to come via email versus any other channel. Why is this? Because targeted emails feel more personal than a sponsored post on Facebook and Instagram.

When you create your emails, keep this in mind. Users typically respond better to personalization versus feeling like they are a part of a group. If they feel clumped in with thousands of other people, they will click archive faster than you can say “Happy New Year!” Additionally, close to 50% of all emails are opened on a mobile device. This is another key statistic you will want to keep in mind when choosing email design templates.

I’m listening. Tell me more…

Now that you are convinced that you need to incorporate email marketing, you should start to have a strategy around how many emails to send each month. Every company is different. You might have a B2B business where you only want to touch base with your target audience 2-4 times per month.

If you are a B2C shop, this could increase. You might send new daily deals (which means 28, 30, or 31 emails every month).

Or if you are new to the whole email thing, and want to test it out try sending at least one monthly newsletter. No matter what you prefer, make sure that you remain consistent. Consistency is the key to success with marketing, no matter what platform you are utilizing.
