3 Reasons Your Business Needs SEO
As a business decision-maker, you have probably read copious articles about marketing your company. You’ve also probably put thousands of dollars towards paid ad efforts. But when you stop pushing ad dollars out, all of your exposure goes out the window.
So what’s the secret? How do those mega brands seem to own the top spot on Google without a paid ad? You probably guessed it - they utilize SEO best practices.
What is SEO?
First, we find it useful to have a full understanding of each concept we go over. What is SEO? Great question! Search Engine Optimization (aka SEO) is a set of rules and guidelines that a website must follow in order to rank organically within search results (meaning no paid ad dollars).
There are 3 main pillars in SEO:
Technical Guidelines
Creating Quality Original Content
Gaining Quality & Relevant Backlinks
Each of these pillars is equal in weight and has several rules they each must follow. We won’t be covering those rules during this lesson; however, if you are interested in learning more sign up to take our 2-week SEO Course!
With brands migrating more online, and SEO becoming increasingly popular, we’ve put together 5 main reasons why YOU should focus more on organic efforts:
SEO Gains Brand Awareness
Data shows that organic site traffic is on average the largest avenue that leads find your website for the first time.
For example, if I type in “Digital Marketing Agency Near Me” I will be inundated with digital marketing agencies in my Google Search Results, and I will take my time reading through the headers and descriptions to see which search result and agency seems to match my needs the most.
I may have never heard of that agency prior to my search, but I was exposed to it for the first time through organic search results.
The same concept applies when users are searching for relevant terms for your site.
So how do you get your site to rank for specific search queries? Find out through our 2-week SEO Course!
2. Exposure Against Competitors
SEO is a GREAT way to stand out against the competition. There are even power tools such as SEMRush.com that allow you to see what your competitors are ranking for and determine keyword opportunities you might be missing out on.
Even further than simply finding keyword opportunities, if you do SEO correctly you will surpass your competition in organic search results. What’s the benefit here? Most web users click within the top 3 organic search results, and if you outrank your competition then your site will typically be clicked on first (circle back to reason #1 why SEO is critical for your business).
3. Improved User Experience
If you do SEO well (i.e. making sure metadata across the site is unique and explanatory of each page, ensuring you have quality content, and gaining quality backlinks), your overall user experience will increase. What does this mean? Well most importantly it means that search engines, such as Google, will trust your site a bit more. Why is that? Because if users find the information that they are actually looking for on a specific page, they won’t bounce to another website.
Through Google’s most recent update (read more about Google Core Web Vitals here), user experience has become a critical element in determining if your site will populate within search results.
What are some items to look out for that might create a bad user experience?
Long loading times
Your website not having multi-device capabilities
Low quality images
Text running off the page
Long running scripts
